The delayed baggage compensation is given when baggage is delayed at least 24 hours – contact your insurance as soon as your baggage does not arrive with you, as some contract clauses might specify the contact time frame. When the bag has arrived at your place, take a picture of the stickers attached to it. The insurance company will need all these information in order to send you a compensation:
- boarding pass copy,
- baggage tag copy,
- baggage delay acknowledgment,
- airline compensation information,
- proof of necessary expenses occured due to the delay,
- bank account information.
After a few days, a representative from the insurance company should give you the good news, as a delayed baggage between 24 and 96h can get you up to 300€ of compensation, and more than 96h can get you 800€ compensation.
During this time, make sure to keep a copy of all receipts, as they will be required by the insurance company to reimburse you.

Compensation for delayed baggage
The claim of compensation when your baggage is delayed during the transport is regulated by the EU regulation (EC) No 889/02 an by the Montreal Convention.
It defines a compensation up to 1 000 Euro. The European Court's decision on the 6th May 2010 (C-63/09) established that the compensation encompasses the material damage as well as the immaterial ones.
In case of a delayed baggage it is important to be careful and to buy only necessary goods: indeed, a compensation is provided only for necessary purchases (you can buy a toothbrush but not a branded bikini).
The complaint must be registered within 21 days from the day when you receive your baggage back.
It is absolutely important to add the corresponding receipts of the goods.
